AVENGED SEVENFOLD Singer Says Throat Problems Helped Improve Music

Launch Radio Networks reports: AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows says that a recurring throat problem forced him to change his vocal style for the better on the band's current album, "City of Evil". Shadows pretty much screamed his way through the group's first two releases, but told Launch that having to learn how to sing properly also improved the group's music. "You know, I had a blood vessel that kept popping," he said. "It wasn't a nodule or anything normal, it was just like a small, minor surgery. And when I went to have the surgery, you know, the doctor, he's like, 'You know what, you're gonna keep having this surgery over and over if you don't get some kind of technique or stop screaming.' And so we wanted that on this record. In a way, we were gonna do it anyways, but it was nice to have that whole medical thing backing it up."

The next single from "City of Evil" is the opening track, "Beast and the Harlot". The album has sold 396,000 copies in the U.S. since its release last June.

AVENGED SEVENFOLD will begin the next leg of its "Cities of Evil" headlining tour on January 19 in Tucson, Arizona.

The band is also confirmed to perform at the Global Gathering festival in Miami, Florida on March 18, featuring NINE INCH NAILS, ROB ZOMBIE, SHINEDOWN, COHEED AND CAMBRIA and others.
